Club Nintendo Merchandise

Some very tasty collectables are available to Club Nintendo of Japan members who save their points rather than splash them on soundtracks or DS games. Following on from the DS Game and Watch Collection titles, dedicated points collectors can actually own a reproduction of one of the early Game & Watch handhelds. Guaranteed to cost less points than the amount of collector kudos points it will generate, it was commissioned to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Game & Watch release of Ball.
Dedicated Nintendo fans, can nail their colours to the mast or most likely their caps, with these lavish pin badges. The Club Nintendo Original Badge Collection is de rigeur for getting a go on the Nintendo pods at the Tokyo Game Show, but possibly its best to avoid wearing to many in a thunderstorm. Even the boxes have been designed for the collector, piecing together to make a pixellated picture of Mario to celebrate his 25th anniversary. Besides the retro kudos, the boxes can be arranged to make different scenes from the early years of the eternally youthful Mario series.

So what else can hard earned points be spent on with the Big N in Japan? Well how about these DS games? No overly expensive intros or CG developed plots, just lashings of solid gameplay to remind us why handheld gaming can be tube stop missing fun....
Whilst slightly envying those who can't recall scratched screens and playground brawls over whose go it was on Donkey Kong, Genki also has a slightly wry smile when thinking back to the misty days when toy shops had counters containing the exotic Game & Watch Collection. In fact, Genki would go so far as to say we wouldn't trade such memories for a full head of hair. Well not on a good day anyway... Yet in Nintendo's all encompassing love for its devotees, gamers of all ages can press there slightly runny noses and Space Invader crisp fingers over the glass counter once again with these delightful compilations...
Three titles are included in the initial installment: the pest ridding Green House, the overrun mechanic in Oil Panic and the evergreen Donkey Kong that still whiles away those car journeys, though ideally not when driving. In part two Octopus and Parachute help to while away any waiting lounge. Happy days.
But that's not all: Tingles Balloon Fight DS is a tribute to the classic title and very tasty Game & Watch making good use of the DS's merits and with clever single and multi player modes to extend the games longevity.
Finally Zekkyo Senshi Sakebrain demonstrates a strangely expansive gaming world for a give away title (well for those with the required points) with atmospheric rain lashing down on the Goemon style towns through which our samurai be suited players stroll. Plenty of opportunities to test martial arts ability soon prevail with the mic being used to issue commands to your player such as kick or punch. Players can also transform into a lycra suited sentai with the feel of plenty of cheese and ham as in Ouendan as the over the top transformations take place. Multiplayer only for two or three players and players must work in true Wa harmony to beat the bad boss. Perfectly designed for such a giveaway title.
So there you have it: ghost Club Nintendo of Japan memberships, we salute you.. Just don't expect the envelope it was sent out in to not have the delivery address blacked out for fear of the Big N ninjas....

Japan is a land of many contrasts - but we are not to start on about the yellowing reddish leaves under the shadow of Fuji san as the amusement park jet coaster zooms past. Oh no. Contrasting fortunes of gamers have varied vastly, but here in the West we definitely seem to be catching up. Yet still preferential treatment in Japan exists, matching the high levels of service found elsewhere in society there and building up intense brand loyalty.
The point? Club Nintendo and there fine, spanking gifts for those who collect enough points. Luckily here at Genki we have been able to obtain a few of the finer examples. Today we would like to introduce the soundtracks...

Before running a mile, gaming music can be incredibly emotive and a vast number of triple A titles boast soundtracks that would stand alone on a headphone pod in the busiest of Shibuya HMV stores. Admittedly that Super Mario song has alot to answer for, but behold the soothing orchestral strokes of Zelda before the action and tension is cranked up in the mere change in tempo. And the Super Mario Galaxy 2 Original Soundtrack banishes memories of red dungarees and stick of 'tashes with wonder and freshness of the game with emotive and rising tunes. Beautiful stuff.
The Kirby Ultra Super Deluxe Original Sound Track might look a bit cheesy, but Jun Ishikawa and Hirokazu Ando spin a web of intriguing tunes that well represent the garishly genki world of Kirby.
Finally the Mario & Luigi RPG Soundtrack captures the charm of this brotherly combi and there innocent love of fun. So hopefully now Western gamers can feel the love their Eastern cousins enjoy. And hopefully that'll help us all unwind from those over intense FPS before we forget the fun in gaming.

Plenty going on of late on the Genki site. Some delightful banners have been crafted thanks to the efforts of Nick Ball Design. Too good to simply be enjoyed on the site, we are currently publishing some stickers to be sent out with orders. The Onsen Octopus is being used in a current advertising campaign, but already we are thinking about Ninja's for next time....

The mobile Genki site is our most exciting achievement for all the early adopters out there who utilise their phones to the max. A clever piece of programming means that the site will detect its being viewed on a phone and show the simpler site making it an easy browse.

There is now a Saturday delivery option for those in the UK to be able to get a console sent out for a special Saturday. (Games usually still arrive next day UK even on a Saturday dependent on location.)

As ever there are plenty of restocks due in a more cheeky titles being added to the site, so please keep an eye out for that import sizzler....

Japanese Import Games

Welcome to our spring newsletter with a major restock on all platforms and some fine additions including Sonic Wings 3 on the Neo Geo, Bangaio Spirits on the DS, a snazzy Pocket Station Card Captor Sakura set on the PSX along with the surreal Bakurestu Soccer. Hajime no Ippo 2 on the PS2 keeps up the gold seal standard of the GBA version with Shin Contra as tough as ever. Three Little Dwarves make their long awaited Saturn debut whilst Capcom shows class is permanent in The King of Dragons on the Super Famicom. Enjoy.

Prime Cuts of Import Gaming

Genki Greetings! Welcome to our freshest update bringing you a fine haul of gaming cuts livelier than Tokyo's Tsukiji fish market.
The Dreamcast kicks off with the Seaman VMU Pack a great way to own a Limited Edition Memory Unit. The Lost Golem is a rarely found beast in stock - a real DC connoisseur's title.
A true Sega guru wouldn't want to be without ShadowRun on the Mega CD - a real chunk of 24 cht gold in the platform's welterweight belt. McDonalds Treasure Land is a well - known Mega Drive platformer being from the Treasure stable, but another couple of fine thoroughbreds with glossy appearances are Marvel Land and Magical Taruruto Kun.
The Trigger Heart Exelica Book is the sort of title to set shmup savvy games heart aflutter with incredibly high production values.
Ninja Masters on the Neo Geo CD has been tormenting the Genki crew this week showing our lack of samurai etiquette after another sound decapitation. Still at least we play fair, unlike that console…
Winter warmers a plenty in the form of some fabulous PC Engine blasters with Gunhed, Cotton, Ai Choaniki, God Panic and Super Star Soldier all warming the cockles more than a good go on the Virtual Cushion…
From the super fine to the sublime on the PSX with Darius Gaiden, Ray Crisis, Gunbird and the barmy Gamera 2000 - a real importers import title! Dezaemon Plus allows gamers who think they could do better to prove it in a shoot 'em up development tool.
Space Fisherman on the PS2 is another such import title that rekindles the passion for your first love at Valentines - gaming.
And with romance in the air, it'd be hard not to fall for one of the sensational PSP UMD's…
Plenty of big hitters back on the Saturn with the little known Deae Tono Sama flexing the SFC's muscles.

An Array of Autumnal Import Gaming Warmers

Welcome to our Autumnal update with a fine array of colourful titles across all platforms. Pleased to say PayPal is now accepted direct from the shopping cart.

The DC weighs in with a couple of popular shooters in the sparkling super deluxe edition of Trigger Heart – an essential at the core of the shmup otaku’sTwinkle Star Sprites, the collection and the urban grit of Under Defeat. More leisurely gamers may head for a spin round the districts of the metropolis in Tokyo Bus Driver, the more destructive for a rampage through the same streets as Toho’s eternal Godzilla.

Super Mario Brothers 2 appears on the GBA – a real collectable that is a top tip for future bidding wars.

The Game Gear brings tears of nostalgia flooding back with the Pengo and Ecco particularly easy on the recently rinsed retina.

Ninja Warriors never lasts long on the Mega CD – the same with the cheery MD Magical Taruruto Kun, a refreshing romp for those no longer feeling the Call of Duty. Mamono Hunter Yoko is a dark horse on the import Mega Drive, but well worthy of the attention. Snow Bros. is a true desirable with delicious gameplay to get the seasoned gamer slavering at the chops. Mcdonalds Treasure Land proves to be no clown and well worthy of wearing the Treasure mantle.
The Neo Geo CD again shows its fine array of arcade wares from the frantic pacing of Metal Slug and Sonic Wings 2, to the sassy Last Blade, via the classy Samurai Spirits IV with a few pops into the onion bag with Super Sidekicks 3.

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 and Excitebike on the N64 win over fans to the various sports – such are their high degree of artistic merit.

One Piece Gear Spirit brings the high jinx of the land lubbing loathing pirate rogues from the anime series to life.

The PC Engine consoles are always a welcome sight on the Genki site with Super Darius, Shubibinman 3, Legend of Hero Tonma, Ninja Spirit, Parasol Stars, PC Kid, Hells Journey, Cotton, Star Parodia, Winds of Thunder, Kaze Kiri, Rayxanber III… Reading like a who’s who of classic retro titles.

The Playstation has some fine titles from the divine Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus to the sublime Power Instinct 2 via the old time Konami Antiques MSX Collection. The almost unknown Plue no Daibouken is a top tip.

The big brother PS2 enjoys a couple of exquisite shooters in ESPGaluda and Dodonpachi Daioujou with Gitaroo Man and Ico a reminder of the top drawer back catalogue. World Heroes Gorgeous has been flying out – good to see SNK hasn’t been forgotten.

Genki Guru’s don’t need reminding of the Saturn’s credentials. The saucy Ohsama game, the samurai slicer Hissatsu and the super Bakabon Bakabons may be a couple of unknown quantities well worth checking out. The addition of the Groove on Fight and Street Fighter Zero 3 Ram Cart Sets are a couple more jewels in the crown.

UFO Kamen Yakisoban and the Violinist of Hamelin are two SFC must haves.

The Wii gets an update of Cloud Master to bring a smile to the face of PC Engine loving shooter fans.
